Oscar Mayer is dubbing the event the “Wienie 500,” and it marks the first time in over a decade that all six Wienermobiles—usually busy cruising coast to coast spreading hot dog cheer—will reunite for one epic, bun-believable battle. It’s like a family reunion… but with more mustard and horsepower.
The Slaw Dog Wienermobile ketchup’d to the Chi Dog in the final stretch, pulling off a last-second pass to relish the win—snagging the first-ever Wienie 500 victory by a nose at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Friday night, Mlive said.
The Wienermobile has been cruising the streets since 1936 as Oscar Mayer’s rolling billboard of bun-believable branding—not to be confused with Louis Meyer, the Indy 500’s first three-time champ (no relation, just similar seasoning).
While these sausage-shaped chariots usually rack up 20,000 miles a year spreading smiles and snack envy, none of those compare to the five glorious, high-stakes miles they racked up Friday night. For the hotdoggers behind the wheel, it was the drive of a lunchtime.
