Real freedom on two wheels starts with the right gear, the right mindset, and a bike that’s properly registered and road-ready.
More likely to die per mile than car occupants
Motorcyclists killed on U.S. roads in 2024
Of all U.S. traffic fatalities
The most prepared riders treat every ride the same: gear on, bike checked, head clear. Because they understand the road doesn’t offer second chances.NHTSA estimates that helmets alone saved nearly 1,900 motorcyclist lives in a single year. Protective gear, rider education, and defensive riding habits save thousands more.
HELMET & GEAR
DOT-certified helmet, full jacket, gloves, riding pants, and boots.
RIDER MINDSET
Impairment and distraction don’t belong on two wheels. Every ride starts with a clear head and full focus.
REGISTRATION & COMPLIANCE
Missing title, expired registration, or incomplete paperwork puts every ride at risk — and puts you on the wrong side of the law. Dirt Legal handles it all online. No DMV. No in-person visits.
Why We Care
At Dirt Legal, motorcycle safety isn’t just about statistics, it’s personal. Our commitment is driven by the experiences of our own team members who have survived serious accidents. In 2019, our Director of Client Success, Alexander Leguizamon, suffered a life-altering crash that required months of recovery before he could walk again. Our Client Success Manager, Brooks Barclay, was also injured in an accident that left him with broken arms and wrists. These firsthand experiences are why we advocate for proper gear and education. We understand that it only takes one second for everything to go wrong, and we work every day to ensure every rider can continue doing what they love safely.
01
Reason 01
This isn’t just a business for us. Our team rides and have been involved in serious accidents. We know what two wheels demand — and what’s at stake when a rider isn’t prepared, properly papered, or protected.
02
Reason 02
The Montana Motorcycle Safety Foundation is a non-profit built by riders, for riders. From first-time endorsements to advanced rider workshops, they’re building a smarter, safer riding community — and we’re proud to support their mission.
03
Reason 03
Every all-black MMSF plate sold through Dirt Legal directly backs the Foundation’s work — reducing road incidents, raising rider awareness, keeping the community safer.
The Right Gear Doesn’t Cost You – It Protects You
You can’t control every driver on the road. You can control what you’re wearing when you meet one.

Here’s what most riders don’t know: the moment you register a dirt bike, it becomes a motorcycle. That registration isn’t just paperwork, it opens the door to public roads. And public roads come with requirements.
LIGHTING & SIGNALS
Headlight (low and high beam), tail light, brake light, and front and rear turn signals are required on every road-legal motorcycle, including converted dirt bikes. No exceptions.
MIRRORS & EQUIPMENT
Most states require at least one rear-view mirror, many require two. DOT-approved tires and a working horn complete the baseline equipment list. Check your state’s requirements before you ride.
REGISTRATION & TITLE
Without valid registration and a clean title, none of the above matters. Dirt Legal handles this part fully online, with no in-person visits.

Buying a motorcycle without a title is possible, but it comes with risks. From “scrap-branded” hurdles to legal requirements, we break down what you need to know before you buy and how to navigate the process of making that bike street-legal.
03
03
Proper gear is the only thing between you and the pavement. We go beyond the helmet to discuss why specialized jackets, gloves, and boots are non-negotiable investments that significantly reduce injury severity during an unexpected crash.

High temperatures can be just as dangerous as rain or ice. This guide covers how to identify heat exhaustion, the importance of hydration, and why “cooling gear” is essential for staying sharp and focused when the summer sun is at its peak.
You’ve got the helmet. You’ve got the gear. You know the road. Make sure the bike is as ready as you are.
Because there is no margin for error, your preparation has to be flawless. That means wearing the right gear, riding with a clear head, and making sure your bike’s title and registration are exactly where they need to be. We handle the administrative side of ownership, making sure you are protected, so you can focus on making it home safe.
